A Time to Drum

A Time to Drum is the story of two friends – Chris Rodgers and Sam Ramsay – from small town Prince Edward Island. Both bitten by the same bug: to join the ranks of the world’s elite highland drummers. Chris, older, has already made it to the world renowned Triumph Street Pipe Band. Sam, considered by many to be a drumming prodigy, follows hot on his heels. Over the course of one season, both will face and overcome many obstacles to achieve their dream – to triumph at the World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. Drummerboyz is a feature documentary to be produced and directed by Susan Rodgers. It will be shot from April to August 2009 for delivery winter 2010.

A kilted young man reaches down to lace his perfectly polished ghillie brogue around his ankle. He straightens. Out of his thick wool sock he grabs a pair of drumsticks. A gleaming snare drum sits idly by. He hoists it onto a metal shoulder harness, beginning to tap the drum, warming up. Around him, hundreds of kilted competitors with pipes and drums are revealed hustling about. Cacophony reigns as a uniformed pipe band marches regally past on its way to the competition field. Out of the noise rises the superb tone of some of the world’s best pipers, urged achingly along by a tremendous drum corps, steady and strong.
